In an interesting coincidence, fully 31% of the stock’s messages for the week expressed Bearish sentiment, with nobody “stepping in front of the truck” and expressing Bullish sentiment. – For the Quants you can get access to data like this using the StockTwits API . Stocktwits record sentiment as the total bullish opinions as a percentage of the total opinions, which can therefore be between 0% and 100%. In all cases, the low is never as low as zero and the high is never 100. For those who don't know, Stocktwits is a platform similar to Twitter, except for stock traders. They have similar restrictions on messages, although one key difference is the ability of traders to tag their Twits with a "Bearish" or "Bullish" tag in order to convey their opinion that the stock is going to fall or rise soon, respectively. If you want to use twitter sentiment as a measure of stock price movements, then I'd recommend collecting tweets that mention that company and analyse them.
